In honor of March being national nutrition month, we thought what better way to kick-start the month than to share five ways you can supercharge your health with diet. With just a handful of simple yet effective healthy eating tips, you may find yourself feeling healthier than you have in a long time!

Here’s how to make the most of national nutrition month with these 5 tips.

5 Ways to Supercharge Your Health This Month

#1 Add Superfoods to Every Meal:If you focus on adding one superfood to each meal, supercharging your diet will be easy! Try adding things like chia and flax seeds to your morning bowl of oatmeal or blended into a smoothie, and some dark leafy greens to your meals. You can easily add a handful of spinach or kale to a stir fry or added to a mixed green salad. Things like avocados, coconut oil, and hemp seeds also make great additions to a healthy diet and are delicious food choices to support overall health this month.

#2 Enjoy One Smoothie Each Day:Make it a goal to enjoy a daily smoothie this month and include some superfoods, and dark leafy greens in there for an added boost. Smoothies can be a great way to pack in a healthy dose of nutrition in an easy and convenient way. Smoothies can also be a great option for those who may not necessarily like the taste of certain veggies and need a yummy way to mask the taste. You can easily blend in some spinach, kale, cauliflower, or even zucchini without alerting the taste of your smoothie too much. Try making a nutrient-dense shake with unsweetened coconut or almond milk, a frozen banana, frozen berries, a handful of kale, and some hemp seeds, and collagen protein powder for a supercharged snack.

#3 Add More Healthy Fat to Your Diet:The body needs healthy fat for more than one reason. While many fear the addition of fats to the diet, we actually need a certain amount of fat to help support things like hormone balance, brain health, and yes, even weight maintenance. Since healthy fats are more energy-dense than carbs, and protein, they help with satiety, so we feel full for longer periods of time. This also means that we may be less likely to overeat when we include healthy fats into our diet. Try adding things like coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocado, and wild-caught salmon to your diet this month for overall health support.

#4 Swap Out Sugar for Natural Sweeteners:Sugar is found in just about everything, so it’s hard to completely eliminate from your diet. However, you can take big steps in cutting back on your sugar consumption by replacing the sugar you use in your morning cup of coffee or baking recipes with a natural option. In place of refined sugar, try using raw honey, pure maple syrup, or stevia in your recipes this month. You can also cut back on your sugar intake by swapping high-sugar foods with unsweetened options. Avoid flavored yogurts, and choose full-fat unsweetened choices instead. You can also replace fruit juice with homemade fruit-infused water, and eliminate pastries, and choose to make your own at home using natural sweeteners and almond or coconut flour instead.

#5 Boost Gut Health with Probiotic-Rich Foods:Add more probiotic-rich foods to your diet this month to help support gut health. Gut health is central to the overall health of your body, and the bacteria in your gut impacts just about every aspect of your health. With an imbalance in the bacteria in your gut, you can experience things like bloating, constipation, weight gain, poor skin health, and even mood changes. Support gut health by adding probiotic-rich foods like full-fat unsweetened Greek or coconut milk yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, and kombucha to your diet this month.

One of the tricks to sticking to healthy eating, and making it a lifelong commitment, is to not completely deprive yourself of the foods you love, but to find healthier alternatives. As a way to celebrate National Nutrition Month, implement these five tips, and start to look at healthy eating as a lifestyle change as opposed to a diet. Challenge yourself to implement these tips, and see how much better you feel by the end of the month!
